為響應國際凈灘日，中山美國中心今年再次與美國在台協會高雄分處及「RE-THINK 重新思考」

於9月24日下午合辦淨灘活動，地點於旗津海水浴場。當天由美國在臺協會高雄分處杜維浩處長

與楚杰生副處長帶領辦公室同仁、高雄美國學校師生、美國高中生華語獎學金計畫學生、國立

中山大學中山美國中心及志工學生團，另有許多家長帶著孩子一同共襄盛舉。約累積280餘人

參與此活動，共清理約500公斤的垃圾量，共同為我們生活的環境保護盡一份心力。

國際凈灘日訂為每年九月的第三個星期六，1986年由Ocean Conservancy員工發起於美國德州

之凈灘活動，短短三年發展為全球性的凈灘活動。

Ocean Conservancy 美國海洋保育協會為美國之非利益組織，辦公室位於華盛頓特區，

此機構每年固定舉辦淨灘活動並於網頁提供相關資訊供參考。

In support of the International Coastal Cleanup Day, the Sun Yat-sen America Center (SYSAC)

has teamed up again with the America Institute in Taiwan Kaohsiung Branch Office and

“RE-THINK” for a Beach Cleanup event on September 24th (Sat.) at Cijing Beach. At the

scene included AIT/K Branch Chief Robert DeWitt, Deputy Branch Chief Jason Chue, students

and teachers from the Kaohsiung American School, the NSLI-Y students (The National

Security Language Initiative for Youth program), the Sun Yat-sen America Center student

volunteers, and many more parents with children estimated up to 280 participants.

An estimated 500 kg of trash were collected, an effort towards our environment.

The International Coastal Cleanup started in 1986 as an effort of Ocean Conservancy staff to

clean up litter on Texas beaches and has grown to be an international event by 1989. 

Ocean Conservancy is a nonprofit environmental advocacy group based in Washington D.C.,

United States and provides annual reports on the Cleanup on the website.
